What is Jumpax vinyl underlay?

Jumpax vinyl underlay is a sound reducing underlayment that is free floating and dry levelling.

Jumpax is capable of creating a super smooth joint less surface for direct glue down of resilient floor coverings such as vinyl, LVT and carpets in commercial and residential use.

The dual underlayment system consists of a composed based board and a top board and is the best underlay system in terms of levelling and impact sound reduction.

Why use Jumpax vinyl underlay?

We recently had a job in a gym, the building contractor had levelled the subfloor with a water based smoothing compound.

On our initial inspection our surveyor noticed that the smoothing compound was cracking, this is not good and would need to be taken up creating a lot of dust and heartbreaking for the business owner.

The cracking was due to the fact that the subfloor hadn’t been primed before laying the smoothing compound.

So, the business owner didn’t want to uplift the cracked floor and we couldn’t lay anything over the floor as it may potentially ‘blow’ meaning that the end flooring product would need to be replaced as well. How damaging would it be to the business if it had to be shut down because the floor had failed and was a risk to Health and Safety.

Then we introduced Jumpax, because it is a 10mm free floating floor the cracked floor was irrelevant and the Jumpax is suitable for the LVT that our client had chosen, so Bingo, problem solved.

Jumpax evaluation

Jumpax is great, once all of the boards are laid it becomes very solid and stable due to the brick bond effect of the installation process.

The cost of Jumpax is relatively expensive when compared to smoothing compounds and Ply wood but those products aren’t sound reducing and potentially heat saving, so in the bigger context of things Jumpax is good value for money, especially for our client that didn’t need to hire machinery and labour to uplift the existing smoothing compound. Im a big believer that you pay for what you get and thats certainly the case when using Jumpax.

Installation was relatively quick (as quick if not quicker than using ply wood) although it is a 2 part system there is no glueing or pinning like using a product like plywood. We used 2 men for 2 days to install 130m2 of this product.
