We were approached by the owner of Bluestone Fitness in Ashby, Leicestershire to supply and install Moduleo flooring for his new Fitness studio.
Moduleo Flooring was to be installed in the main fitness studio, office, café and reception.
The female and Male changing rooms were to be installed in Altro Wood Safety.
Installation Problems @ Bluestone Fitness
Right from the off we had to overcome problems. The building contractor had used a self levelling compound on the sub-floor that was already cracking. The problem that we faced was that we did not trust this compound enough to install our smoothing compound over the top of it, therefore, we advised our client that it had to be taken up. He really did not want to strip it all out as the project was too far forward and it would create to much mess.
Although the sub- floor had a levelling compound on it, with all of our vinyl installations we will always install our own 3mm smoothing compound as the preparation is key to the final appearance. The smoothing compound needs to be on a solid base, in the instance, if we had have laid it on top of what was there it would ‘blow’ in time.
At DCS Flooring we will always do what our clients want, but, we will always make sure that everything that is done is done properly. In this situation, we had to find a solution so that the floor was laid with no problems in the future and that our client got what he wanted.
JUMPAX the saviour
After a little thought, we remembered that we had once used a product called Jumpax.
Jumpax is a free floating, dry levelling, sound reducing, underlay system. Jumpax is capable of creating a super smooth joint less surface for direct glue down of resilient floor coverings such as linoleum, vinyl, VCT, LVT, cork and carpets. The Jumpax system is suitable for commercial and residential use. The dual underlayment system consists of a composed based board and a top board and is the best underlay system in terms of levelling and impact sound reduction.
This product was a saviour as we could install it over the existing sub-floor, keeping our client happy.
